Oakley Tailend

A distinctly mid-2010s Oakley metal design: round, high-curved lenses, twisted stems and a rimless construction made to look framed.

Oakley Tailend OO4088-01 Titanium Black Iridium

Released in 2015

Tailend appeared as a new Oakley model in the company’s 2015 eyewear catalogue. Contemporary retail coverage from May 2015 also described it as a new release, placing the model’s original introduction firmly in 2015.

The unusual construction

Oakley built Tailend around its lightweight C-5 metal alloy and an integrated spring hinge. The round, high-curved lenses carry a laser-etched line that creates the visual impression of a lens rim even though the construction is effectively rimless. Air-filled silicone nosepads and Unobtainium earsocks were used for fit and grip.

This YGW example

The YGW example is the original OO4088-01 colourway: Titanium frame with Black Iridium lenses. That model code and colour combination appear in Oakley’s 2015 catalogue and in period retailer records. The photograph above is the actual YGW pair.
